In 1933, Dietrich crossed the Atlantic in the SS Europa making headlines for dressing in a gorgeous white pantsuit. The Parisian police warned her that she would be arrested if she wore menswear in the French capital. In response, Dietrich stepped off the train and onto the Paris platform wearing her most mannish tweed suit, complete with her hair slicked back under a beret and sunglasses fashioned after the monocle, a coded symbol of lesbianism.

has anyone (anyone?) watched black sails and concluded that the relationship between flint and silver is wholly platonic? has anyone been that wrong? genuinely curious.
Question from a newbie (and passionate/ obsessive/ joyful Silverflint shipper): are “platonic” and “love” mutually exclusive? Namely, could the undeniably passionate and lifelong love between Flint and Silver (publicly acknowledged by producers and actors) have been the main mast of the Black Sails ship while remaining non-sexual?
“Platonic” and “love” are not mutually exclusive, platonic love is a thing, but it isn’t the same thing romantic love, which can be sexual but isn’t necessarily.
In this case I’m putting myself firmly in the “Flint and Silver harbor romantic feelings towards one another, and their love is not platonic” camp. Whether or not they’re physically attracted to one another is a whole separate thing. I personally think they are, but I feel like that’s a little more subjective.
Totally agree with “dangerous rabbit hole” 🙂 . My question was a hypothetical. Personally, I am delighted to be in the “unspoken deep emotional + romantic + sexual attraction” team, and to bookmark scores of stories where the unspoken becomes spoken and has a chance to develop further.
Here it is, the Ryill shaving fic I’ve been threatening since I saw DRAH!
I wrote this ficelet as a gift for @mcicioni-blog. Have a great day M, I hope you like this. Title is from the song Old Man by Neil Young which I feel is very Ryill.
Loved it on my birthday (one of the best birthday gifts I ever received), love it now. If you are at all familiar with the film, don’t miss this story, it’s full of intimacy, respect and tenderness.

Jack’s “Ow”, after Anne’s atypical show of relief, love and tenderness, is so completely in-character that I never know whether to laugh, weep a little, bash him on the head or cuddle him. Maybe all of the above, simultaneously.
