H o n e s t l y it bothers me so much when it’s portrayed as like, he literally just reverts back to McGraw / some former version of himself. Like @ silver (and everybody) that’s,,, not how trauma works, you don’t just get to go backwards and undo it all. That doesn’t mean he has to be the same twisted person forever but it does mean you can only go forward and hope your scars heal, you can’t go backwards and be the same person you were before you ever got scarred.
And Silver must know this if he actually asks himself, too, because there’s no way he could go back to the person he was before Flint, and his transformation happened in a much shorter time. It’s such a bittersweet and alien idea he’s insisting on, that with Thomas he’s somehow resurrected McGraw, when McGraw just… doesn’t exist anymore to be resurrected.
I agree, you definitely can’t go back. Flint may have been conjured out of destructive grief and John Silver constructed out of repression of his past but they are those personas. They became them. Silver’s walls are an insane mess to navigate lol
