Yo does anyone on here remember when “Drabble” meant exactly 100 words and ppl were all strict abt it
tbh, I’m still strict about it. If you tag your fic as a drabble on AO3 (or a series of drabbles) and it doesn’t end in a multiple of 100, I’m not reading it. It’s petty, I know, but you have to draw a line somewhere!
This. There are many words in this world. Drabble means a fic of EXACTLY 100 words. If you want to write a short fic which does not contain exactly 100 words, that’s amazing, brilliant. It’s a ficlet, or a short story. Or possible a double/triple drabble (exactly 200/300 words) etc. But if it isn’t exactly 100 words, it isn’t a drabble.
The whole POINT of a drabble is crafting those 100 words into a perfect teeny fic. That’s the art of the drabble. It’s a teeny tiny gem of a fic.
I will defend drabbles to the grave.
Ditto. I have been writing 1 drabble a week and it’s torture (bloody hell, it’s 112 words, which 12 words should I chop, I need them all, but must chop 12, let’s see, it could work, etc etc etc) and oh, the joy when the Word Count says 100
